My story

I began my career as an Occupational Therapist supporting autistic and neurodivergent people, long before retraining as a hairdresser in 2021. Without planning to, I naturally built a deeply neurodivergent client base and saw firsthand how ‘typical’ salon culture can overwhelm or exclude those with different nervous systems.

A back injury in 2025 took me out from behind the chair and gave me space to reflect on how many clients were masking discomfort or avoiding salons altogether.

I’m Brandy Powell, founder of Salon Spectrum -

.
That’s when Salon Spectrum was born - from the belief that salons can feel safe, calm and genuinely welcoming for every brain type. My mission is to help stylists create spaces that are not only accessible, but supportive and enjoyable for neurodivergent clients.
